About This Spot
Stepping into Chef P's Restaurant feels like entering a quiet, well-loved neighborhood gem tucked away in Milpitas. The modest storefront and simple interior make it a place where the focus is truly on what’s coming out of the kitchen, inviting a casual, unhurried pace. The atmosphere is unpretentious and warm, one where familiar faces blend with newcomers looking to savor hearty, satisfying Chinese fare without ceremony.
There’s an understated comfort here — the kind that encourages lingering over a shared meal or picking up a generous order to enjoy back at home. The friendly hum of staff moving efficiently through their rhythm, paired with the gentle buzz of diners chatting, creates a welcoming backdrop that feels both familiar and genuine.
At the heart of Chef P’s experience are dishes that lean into bold, home-style flavors and textures, often anchored by the signature salt and pepper offerings. Whether it's the crispy fried calamari that locals rave about for its crunch that remarkably holds up over days, or the savory ribs and wings that carry a punch of seasoning, each bite feels thoughtfully crafted to linger. The kitchen plays confidently with both seafood and meat, layering familiar favorites with touches that invite return visits — a pleasure for those who appreciate food with a bit of soul and polish, rather than flash.
While the space itself is cozy, big flavor is the real draw here. Prices remind you this is an authentic neighborhood spot rather than a polished dining experience, but the hearty portions and freshness make it worth every cent. It’s a place where families have returned for years, and where newcomers can quickly feel part of the rhythm — a quiet milestone in the Milpitas food scene.
For those seeking a straightforward, comforting Chinese meal paired with attentive, down-to-earth hospitality, Chef P’s quietly stands out. It’s less about spotlight and more about the everyday moments of enjoying food that feels made with care, patience, and a precise hand.

Ordered in-person and got Combination Fried Rice, Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet, and Mongolian Beef. Their meats are very flavorful, but the Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet had no seasoning, so I would not recommend the dish. Overall, I would order the meat dishes here, but not the fish.

I've been coming here with my family for years. This place is CASH ONLY. Their salt and pepper calamari is so crunchy. It's addicting. We tried the salt and pork ribs are pretty good too. Prices have definitely gone up. I think the salt and pepper calamari was about $26 but the container is petty full. The place itself is small. You literally have enough space to just look at the menu and come back to pick up your order. The lady seems mean but she doesn't play.

This place is primarily known for its fried crispy calamari which is unique in that it stays crispy literally for days. It's tasty, crunchy and quite addictive. My in-laws would buy a half tray and bring it on a flight to Asia and it would still be crispy after a 14 hour flight. I buy a small box for $26 and we eat it over 4-5 days and it stays crispy the entire time. Regarding the service, if you've ever watched Seinfeld with the episode featuring the "Soup Nazi", my wife and I jokingly refer to the Chef P's lady as the "Squid Nazi". Yes, she's gruff. We just accept it knowing she's like that to everyone and it's not you specifically. Just expect that she's like that and it isn't a big deal because I haven't found any place else that can make calamari like they do. The place is CASH ONLY so bring your greenbacks. Finally, make sure you seal up your calamari tightly in a zip lock or plastic bag or your car or luggage will smell like fried calamari.

Absolutely fire The house fried rice was spectacular—loaded with shrimp, pork, and chicken, not skimpy at all. Service was solid and fast, and on top of that… they have lemon pepper wings with alot of flavor best chinese food in San Jose hands doem
